Reading Groups

Dedicated to the works of James Joyce, our reading groups bring together people who love Irish literature and its limitless potential for discussion, learning and self-discovery.

Ulysses Reading Group Launches January 25th!

Are you one of those very ambitious people who has an almost-unused copy of Ulysses sitting on a bookshelf? Did you start reading it but after a chapter or two, thought it was just too much?

There is a solution to this problem. As part of your New Year’s resolutions, contact Jamie at ulyssesgroupmtl@gmail.com to join a free monthly reading group which launches on January 21 at 7:00 PM via Zoom. You will receive the Zoom coordinates by email.

It takes a village to read Ulysses. Join the fun; be ready for Bloomsday!

Finnegans Wake or The Boaters and Sifters of ALP

Inaugurated in March 2015, our group meets on the third Wednesday of every month.

Upcoming Meetings: August 15, 2018, September 19, October 17. 7:00pm to 8:30pm.
Westmount Public Library. 4574 Sherbrooke Street West, in the Westmount Room.

We have almost finished with chapter two and are quickly approaching chapter three. Hey hey, we’re on page 42! At our next meeting we will start somewhere on the middle of page 42 with “This, more krectly lubeen or fellow—me—lieder was first poured forth where Riau Liviau riots and col de Houdo humps…”

Ulysses

They were back for round two! This was our second Ulysses reading group.

Group leaders Megan Abley and Dominic Richard created a welcoming discussion-based environment designed to help everyone deepen their understanding of this penetrating and mysterious novel. This was a supportive community of first-time readers and readers revisiting the text.

The group met every two weeks at Concordia University’s School of Irish Studies. 1455 de Maisonneuve Blvd. West Room 1001.1 Metro Guy Concordia. 7:30pm to 9:30pm

Thank you to everyone who participated!
